"WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?" TEE
Introducing the "Who Do you Say that I am?" Tee.
This is one of my favorite parts of scripture. If you flip to Mathew Chapter 16 verse 13 is where it starts. Jesus brings his 12 disciples to a place called Caesarea Philippi which was known as the "Gates of Hades or Hell". This was a place where religious leaders wouldn't even go near at the time because of all the depravity that was happening there. There were temples and shrines built to the false pagan god Pan. Child Sacrifice was taking place there, babies were being sacrificed and murdered. There was lots of sexual immorality even believed to be beastiality going on there. There was worship of government leaders hence the name Caesarea of Philippi named after the Roman Leader Caesar and Philip the Tetrarch(mayor). There was also a false gospel being preached with worship of these false gods. So this was a place of extreme depravity. The thing is all these things are still happening right now in our modern world in our country of America, right here in our backyards.
The fascinating thing is Jesus brings his disciples to the midst of the darkness. Unafraid, he stands in front of the "Gates of Hell" and doesn't address any of the things that are going on behind him. Instead, He asks a couple of questions.
The First question that Jesus asks is :
"Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" (Mathew 16:13)
The disciples respond:
"Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets".
But then Jesus makes it personal and ask them:
"But Who do You say that I am?"
Peter perks up and responds:
"You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God"
Jesus then says:
"Blessed are you Simon, Son of Jonah. Flesh and Blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in Heaven. And I tell you, You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven." (Mathew 16:16-19)
This is packed with revelation.
First of all, you can never know Jesus as the Christ unless the Father reveals it to you by the Holy Spirit. I can never personally tell you enough about him, the Father has to do this work, so this is a gift from God. He does say if you search for him with all of your heart, you will find him. The Father is looking for such people, sincere worshippers. (John 4:23-24)
Second, upon this revelation, you also find out who you are. As the son is revealed to you, you know who you are as well as a son of God, Just as Jesus tells Peter who he is. As the whole world is in an identity crisis, and as I was to, this is the most important question everyone is trying to figure out. Is God real, who is he? Why is that important to me? Who am I and what am I called to do?
In Christ you find out who you are and what you are called to do. You finally know the truth and are set free.
Third, Jesus says that upon the revelation of him as the Christ, he builds his church and the gates of hell will not prevail. When you know Jesus as the Christ, you know the Truth and are set free from all the lies you have been told your whole life and are finally free in the Father's embrace. In the midst of Darkness, when you know Christ, you are free and nothing can prevail against you. This is profound! Knowing Christ sets you free and dispels darkness because he is the Light of the World! (John 8:12)
Last but not least, he will give you the keys of the kingdom! Keys represent authority and unlocking. As you begin to know him more and more, you know your identity as a son and walk in the same authority that Christ walked in because now he lives in you and through you and you in him. Once a victim, subject to all the sways and winds and doctrines of the world, you are now solidified in Christ, built on the solid Rock of Truth tearing down all the lies that held you in bondage and now you are enlisted in his army of Lovers to help others be free as you proclaim and demonstrate the eternal Gospel of the Kingdom Of Heaven!
Who the Son Sets Free is Free Indeed! Hallelujah!
Buy A shirt and go around and ask people "who do they say that Jesus is?". May it spark a conversation that leads them into the Truth! And as you wear it, may many people ponder this question as you walk by them even if you never talk to them.
Ask this question for yourself as well as knowing Jesus will take a whole eternity to discover; there are so many different aspects and facets to who he is. So we will continue to discover for all of eternity!
May the whole earth be filled with the Glory of the knowledge of the children of God! May the whole earth be filled with the Glory of the Lord!
The Lord Bless you and Keep you! The Lord cause his face to shine upon you and Give you His Peace all the days of your Life!
God Bless You!
Love you,
John Horowitz
